Job Description:

Kaur Life is looking to hire a magazine editor with outstanding writing, editing, and creative skills. The magazine editor is expected to possess fantastic planning, organizational, and staff management skills that will increase Kaur Life’s reception and readership across its platforms. To ensure success, magazine editors should demonstrate a superb command of English with a keen interest in shaping Kaur Life to distinguish its content to its target audience of multilingual speakers. As part of the Kaur Life team, the magazine editor would work with the social media manager.

Notes:

This is a one year, contract position starting January 2024 and ending in January 2025 Position may be extended based on available funds and job performance.

This is a remote position that requires an internet connection. 

You will be working with one or two other people, who will also be remote.

This is a position that requires initiative and self-direction.

Must be legally authorized to work in the USA.

Responsibilities:

  • Recruit and manage contract writers and photographers
  • Generate story ideas for writers and/or brainstorm topics with writers 
  • Copy-edit content
  • Approve & publish content 
  • Develop writer and style guides

Requirements:

  • In addition to English fluency, an ideal candidate would have workable skills to either read or write in Gurmukhi and/or Punjabi in order to reach our target audience.

Hours: Be able to commit 20 hours/week towards this position

Salary:  20 hours/week = $23,000/year

    • Your samples can be anything non-fiction. Examples include but are not limited to papers written for class, articles written for newspapers or magazines, or blog posts that cover current events, opinions, lifestyle, human interest stories etc.   Please do not submit fiction, short stories, poetry, or book reviews. 
    • We will be looking for structure, grammar, spelling, flow, tone, and how well you explain the subject matter while substantiating your thoughts. 
    • If you do not have any writing samples, you can write a mock article for Kaur Life on a Sikh Kaur topic. For more guidance, review our “Writing Guide”.
